Working by the fjord

Workation in Norway: work where others come to breathe.

Working remotely means it doesn't matter where your desk is. So it might as well be where the fjord waits after work instead of rush-hour traffic. A workation in southern Norway isn't a trip around the world, it's a ferry and an hour's drive, the same time zone as central Europe and fast internet by the water.

Visit Norway now lists workations as a travel trend of its own, and the Nordic countries regularly top quality-of-life studies for remote workers. Here's what that looks like with us in practice.

Fast internet at the end of the world

The most important question first: yes, the Wi-Fi carries video calls. Maritim 2 in Borhaug has fast fibre internet, Ramsland 8a and Ramsland 2d run on Starlink. You work at the big dining table with a view of the water, and every house has bright living areas where a laptop doesn't feel out of place.

Then there's the practical part: Norway is in the same time zone as Germany and central Europe. Your meetings stay where they are, only the view behind them changes.

The rhythm: focused work, outdoor life

A workation by the fjord has its own rhythm. In the morning you work with more focus than at the office, because nothing interferes: no commute, no office noise, no lunch queue. A break is a jump into the water or twenty minutes on the jetty. After work in summer there's still half a day of light left for the boat, the coastal path or simply the terrace.

The off-season, autumn to spring, is when the houses are ideal for this: quiet, bright, with a fireplace or sauna for the evenings. That's also when they're most available and most affordable, from 80 euros per night.

Practicalities for planning

Getting there: ferry from Hirtshals to Kristiansand (2.5 to 3 hours), then about an hour's drive. With your own car you're flexible locally, and the supermarket is around five minutes from every house. EU citizens enter without formalities and can stay for up to three months.

The houses range from 62 to 159 square metres, for a solo workation, for two, or with the family exploring the area in the afternoons while you work. Dogs are welcome in the three boat houses. And you book directly with us, without platform fees, with personal local contacts.

Who this is for

For everyone who lives in a city and has noticed that four walls and a coworking space are no substitute for recovery. For couples where one works and one holidays. For anyone who wants to stretch the summer, or counter a grey February with two bright weeks by the water. In short: for people who don't want to wait until retirement for nature, water, quiet and a view.
